The beauty of a remote mountain area in northeastern Georgia

Brief introduction: This trek takes you to northeastern Georgia, a region called Tusheti. During the trek we will get over 3.000 m high passes and have the opportunity to admire the 5.000 m glaciated giants of the eastern Caucasus. We will see the original mountain villages with typical stone towers, characteristic for this mountainous region. We will also stop at the center of the Georgian wine region of Kakheti, in the town of Telavi, where we will have the opportunity to taste delicious Georgian wines.

Itinerary of the trip :

Day 1 - Arrival and first evening in Tbilisi

Upon arrival Tbilisi is followed by a transfer to the capital. The evening is followed by a traditional Georgian dinner in a cosy restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2 - Drive to the heart of Tusheti (Omalo, 1880 m)

After breakfast, the long but beautiful drive to Omalo begins. On the way there is a stop for lunch at Telavi. Arrival in Omalo in the early evening brings a well-deserved rest at the guesthouse.

Day 3 - Trek to Shenaka (2080 m)

In the morning the first trek begins. The trek to Shenako village takes approximately 4-5 hours. Along the way there are spectacular views of the mountain landscape and the village retains its authentic atmosphere. Overnight in Shenako.

Day 4 - Drive to Dartlo (1850 m)

Today's stage is one of the longer ones - the trek to Dartlo takes approximately 7-8 hours. The trail leads through wild nature and past ancient villages. Dartlo turns out to be a picturesque mountain settlement with typical tower houses.

16 km / 7-8 hours

Day 5 - To remote Girevi (2000 m).

The journey continues towards Girevi, where Tusheti shows itself in its most authentic form. On arrival, dinner and rest at a local guesthouse.

14.5 km / 6 hours

Day 6 - Trek to Jvarboseli (2000 m)

The trek continues deeper into the mountains, where wild scenery and remote pastures open up. After an eventful day and arrival in Jvarboseli, dinner and overnight at a local guesthouse await.

12 km / 5-6 hours

Day 7 - Return to civilization

From the mountains the road leads back to Omala, part on foot, part by car. This is followed by a transfer to the wine region of Telavi, where local wine tasting and good food takes place in the evening.

 10 km on foot + transfer

Day 8 - Journey home

After a scheduled breakfast, transfer to the airport and goodbye to Georgia, full of unforgettable impressions.
